Alder Center for Caring to Open by End of July

Capital Caring’s new Alder Center for Caring, Loudoun County’s first inpatient hospice facility, will officially open its doors later this month on the Van Metre Campus in southeastern Loudoun.

Located on Route 50 and Gum Spring Road in Stone Ridge, the $15 million, 48,000-square-foot facility will feature 21 inpatient rooms and a Pain and Palliative Care Clinic for non-hospice patients.

Retired physician Jack Fox, who led the project, said he felt the 90-minute drive to Halquist Memorial Center in Arlington was too far for families to travel for hospice care.

Capital Caring moved its 180 home care specialists to the facility in March to serve about 300 patients in their nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.

Capital Caring currently serves 1,200 patients each day in Northern Virginia, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reports.

The center was financed entirely through private donations, including a $3 million contribution from Len and Dale Adler and $2 million raised through The Daffodil Ball, the Washington Post reports. Stone Ridge developer Al Van Metre donated the 4-acre parcel of land.

The center will offer a full range of services and amenities including flat-screen televisions in the private rooms, a kitchen, a children’s playroom and counseling rooms for doctors and other staff members.
