Saturday’s Family Fun Fest provided tons of fun while raising money for Loudoun Interfaith Relief. Sonak Family Chiropractic & Life Wellness planned the event and invited a few special guests, such as Fetch, the Loudoun Hounds mascot.
“When I found out their need for food greatly increased during the summer months, I felt called to help,” said Will Sonak, MD. Will and Alison Sonak, who live in Ashburn, own Sonak Family Chiropractic & Life Wellness and decided to give back to the community.
"As a volunteer with Loudoun Interfaith I found out that the organization is feeding more children in the summer because of summer vacation interrupting the school lunch program,” Alison Sonak said. “That realization spawned this entire event."
The event featured a moon bounce, a dunk tank – which provided an opportunity to dunk both Dr. Sonak and Shawn Mitchell, a candidate for state senate – appearances from the Washington Redskins Hogettes and Fetch the Loudoun Hounds mascot, free Chick-fil-A food, free chiropractic adjustments, free massages, giveaways and, of course, the food collection.
The amount of food donated will be determined in pounds when it’s dropped off at Loudoun Interfaith Relief on Tuesday. Boxes were filled to the brim.
"As a community, this is a charity that is easy to help out,” Mitchell said. “Not everyone can donate blood or money, but everyone has extra cans of food that they can donate."
Loudoun Interfaith Relief, established in 1991, serves as the largest food pantry in Loudoun County. Last year, it provided food to 66,789 individuals, representing a 43 percent increase in service from the previous year.
