Fans, Restaurants Mourn Redskins' Wildcard Loss

Leesburg restaurants, hoping to draw in football fans on Sunday, spent the afternoon preparing for the Redskins' first home playoff game since 1999.

They got the fans – but their team couldn't secure a win, as the Redskins fell at home to the Seattle Seahawks 24-14.

The Baltimore Ravens beat the the Indianapolis Colts 24-9 and will head to play the Denver Broncos.

And though the Washington Redskins were taking to the field Sunday hoping to finish their day by packing for a trip to Atlanta to play the Falcons next week, now the Seahawks will head to the Georgia Dome instead.

Before that, spirits were high in Leesburg. At The Green Turtle, the pregame excitement was building with fans arriving well before kickoff to watch the game on one of the bar's 42 television screens.  They had TVs at every booth and a party room with big screens. 

The Q Company was also ready for Redskins fans. 

"Business was busy mid-day and since this was our first Sunday open we did not know what to expect.  We're excited to host the game tonight," said Sara Matzek, owner of the Q Company.

Velocity5 in Lansdowne was packed, and though the outcome wasn't ideal, business was "great," Michael Stringfellow, manager of Velocity5, said.

"We are the Redskins bar, we have been waiting for this for 20 years. The Redskins actually hang out at this location, so we draw a big crowd for their games," Stringfellow said.

For now, Stringfellow, and fans across the Washington area, will have to wait another year to see big crowds and cheer on the Redskins.
