No, Food Lion's Not Coming Belmont Greene in Ashburn

The grocery chain is using the former site for storage while it improves equipment at other stores.

Food Lion piqued the curiosity of some Ashburn resident recently by parking a few trailers in front of the former Bloom store at the Village at Belmont Greene, but the grocer is not planning re-open store.

Food Lion continues to be involved with the lease for the site – Delhaize America is the parent company of Food Lion and the former Bloom chain, which operated the Belmont Greene store – and decided to take advantage of the space while it works on some equipment from other stores.

"It's excess real estate we had, so we're using for storage," said Christy Phillips-Brown, a spokeswoman for Food Lion. "We're refurbishing some equipment and we're using that facility for storage while we move things back and forth. We're not opening a store there."

Initial story:

Readers recently commented on some Food Lion trucks parked in front of the former Bloom grocery store at the Village at Belmont Greene in Ashburn.

Sure enough, there are a few trailers parked in the parking lot. There does not appear to be any activity inside at the moment.

Delhaize America is the parent company of Food Lion, which at one point had launched Bloom as an alternate brand. The space at Belmont Greene has been empty since Bloom pulled out in 2010.
