Group, Loudoun Rail Now, Encourages County's Participation in Metro

Comprised of people who have long supported rail, LRN intends to educate the Loudoun Board of Supervisors.

Loudoun Rail Now (LRN) recently announced its entry into the debate over Loudoun County's participation in Phase 2 extension of the Silver Line. LRN is a consortium of businesses, organizations, associations and citizens committed to educating the public on the benefits of building this needed investment in Loudoun County’s future.

Essential to LRN’s mission is sharing information about this nearly 50-year plan to bring Metro to Dulles Airport and to Route 772 in Loudoun County and its long-term benefit to the county and its residents.

“So much of the recent debate on rail to Loudoun has been centered on a short-term view,” said Patty Nicoson of the Dulles Corridor Rail Association. “Few people realize that Loudoun County and the region have been planning and legislating for rail to Loudoun County since 1985 and our residents, businesses and elected officials have been making significant decisions based on this fact.”

Loudoun Rail Now has an online petition that has received scores of signatures already. The group plans to emphasize the positives of rail to key decision makers in the region. Central to the group’s views are the cost and time savings for commuters, those traveling to and from Tysons Corner and Loudoun, and the economic development potential for the County.

“With the 90-day period beginning today, it is critical that the nine Loudoun County Supervisors be able to make this generation-defining decision with the proper set of facts,” Nicoson concluded. “We are here to be a resource.”
