Progress Continues on 8-theater Alamo

The drafthouse cinema-style movie complex expects to open in May at One Loudoun.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema announced Friday that its plans to construct its first theater in Washington, DC, region remain on track with opening of the One Loudoun location in Ashburn anticipated in May.

Alamo’s newest 32,000-square-foot movie theater and restaurant can be seen under construction by drivers Russell Branch and Loudoun County parkways.

“We can’t wait for Loudoun County to experience first-hand why Time Magazine calls us ‘the best theater ever,’” said Anthony Coco, Franchise Partner with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. “I think Alamo’s signature touches will make us a hit as we expand into the Washington region.”

Besides screening the latest Hollywood and independent films, Alamo offers its own brand of the movie experience – ranging from sing-alongs to classics to lost or under-seen cinematic gems – has helped earn them a reputation as a movie lover’s oasis.

Patrons can grab dinner and a movie all in one place. However, be aware that Alamo has strict policies against using mobile phones in the theaters during movies.

According to Alamo representatives, the theater at One Loudoun –which will have eight auditoriums with 792 seats – is about two-thirds complete. Each auditorium will be equipped with state-of-the-art Sony 4K projectors and a layout that eliminates the traditional front row.

A series of grand opening events are planned at the Alamo, including festivities surrounding the release of several eagerly anticipated summer blockbusters, sneak previews with discounted tickets and half-priced food, and Alamo’s famous “Rolling Roadshow” events.
