Residential Helipad In the Works for Sterling CEO

Chuck Kuhn, president and CEO of JK Moving in Sterling, hopes to build a Loudoun's first residential helipad near his future home on Egypt Farm in Purceville.

Chuck Kuhn, president and CEO of JK Moving in Sterling, Virginia, has submitted a special exception application to Loudoun County to build a heliport at the center of Egypt Farm to shorten his commute from 2 hours to just 11 minutes.

Kuhn, a licensed helicopter pilot since 2002 and airplane pilot since 1988, owns a Eurocopter EC130, which he stores at Washington Dulles International Airport. According to the Washington Business Journal, the cost to fill the Eurocopter’s 140-gallon tank for a 350-mile trip is roughly $600.

Kuhn plans to construct his new primary residence on the abandoned Egypt Farm, which he acquired in a foreclosure auction to build a 7-bedroom home and a 14.8-acre lake next to the property he currently leases on Sandy Lerner's Jubilation Farm.

Kuhn purchased the 540-acre parcel last December for $5.2 million, the Washington Business Journal reports. The land came with an existing 6,000-square-foot concrete lot which will serve as the landing pad and the foundation of a 6,540-square-foot barn, which will be the base for the helicopter’s hanger.

Loudoun County currently has two heliports, one at Loudoun Hospital Center and one in Bluemont owned by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Kuhn’s project would be Loudoun’s first residential helipad.

His application states Kuhn would travel between his new home and JK Moving roughly two to three times per week.
