Supervisors Ask AG to Investigate OpenBand

Board votes for request following closed session Tuesday morning.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted 6-1-2 to ask Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to investigate OpenBand regarding its agreement to serve the Lansdowne and Southern Walk communities in Loudoun County.

The board also voted to schedule additional hearings regarding a franchise agreement with OpenBand – which provides cable television, telephone and high-speed Internet services – in case such hearings are needed.

Residents of both communities have complained about service from OpenBand.

The Southern Walk community recently filed a lawsuit in federal court against OpenBand. OpenBand points to positive customer service ratings.

Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) voted against the motion, saying supervisors were "overstepping" their responsibilities. County Chairman Scott K. York (I-At Large) and Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) were absent for the vote.
