Inova Loudoun Hospital Completes 550 da Vinci® Robotic Surgeries

Inova Loudoun Hospital recently completed 550 da Vinci® robotic surgeries. Single-site da Vinci® robotic surgery is the most effective, least invasive surgical treatment available. The robotic assisted surgical program at Inova is a state-of-the-art alternative to both traditional open surgery and conventional minimally invasive surgery.
Inova Loudoun Hospital surgeons have been using the da Vinci® robotic-assisted surgery system since 2009. The first procedure preformed was a prostatectomy and one of the most common procedures is a cholecystectomy  (gallbladder surgery).
Using robotic and computer technologies, the robotic surgical system allows surgeons to perform complex operations with greater precision. The robot translates the surgeon’s hand, wrist and finger movements into precise, real-time movements of surgical instruments. Specially trained surgeons control the robot from a console, using high definition cameras and manipulating the high-performance, miniature instruments to perform the operation.  This surgery is performed through the bellybutton with a single incision now for certain surgical procedures.
