9/11 Ride to Pass Through Loudoun Friday

Thousands of motorcycles will pass through Loudoun County Friday as America’s 9/11 Foundation Inc. holds its annual commemorative ride in remembrance of the lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, aftermath and recovery.

King Street in Leesburg will be closed from about 2 p.m. until the procession passes through downtown, then on to the Route 7/15 Bypass and the Dulles Greenway. Road closures are expected to last 20 minutes or so. Weather and traffic could impact the time the ride passes through.

In addition to closing the road to traffic, King Street intersections will be closed to east-west cross traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, until the riders have passed.

Spectators wishing to watch the motorcycles pass through Leesburg are encouraged to arrive downtown no later than 1:30 p.m. Parking will be available in the Town Hall Parking Garage, at the Liberty Street Parking Lot (Liberty & Royal Streets) and at the Pennington Parking Lot (Church & North Streets).  For safety reasons, spectators will not be allowed to hand any items (bottled water, flags, flowers, etc.) to the motorcycle riders.

Residents in Ashburn often gather at overpasses along the Greenway to watch the event.
