Flash Flood Warning Ends in Eastern Loudoun

The rain just keeps on falling, raising the changes of rising water throughout the region.

UPDATE: 10:30 p.m. Warning called off for eastern Loudoun has been cancelled.

UPDATE: Warning extended until 1:45 a.m. According to WeatherBug.com, a little more than 2 inches of rain fell in northern Ashburn, while about 1.5 inches fell in southern Ashburn. [Editor's note: It's hard to believe we only received 2 inches of rain; it poured all day. Reston got more than 6 inches today.]

UPDATE: Warning extended until 11 p.m. More than 2 inches of rain has fallen in Ashburn today.

UPDATE: Warning extended until 7:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the region, including Ashburn and the surrounding area. The warning remains in effect until 5:30.

Residents should take precautions around standing water.

According to the NWS, most flood deaths occur in automobiles, so drivers should not drive into areas where water covers the road. Floodwaters tend to be deeper than they appear. One foot of flowing water can sweep a vehicle off the road.
