‘Money’: Ashburn No. 30 Best Place to Live

The community, a major player in Internet traffic, placed No. 6 in terms of median income.

Money Magazine came out with its annual "Best Places to Live" list on Monday, and Ashburn ranks No. 30 overall and No. 6 on the “Top-Earning Towns” list.

Carmel, IN, took first place overall, with Reston topping the list locally at No. 7, followed by Centreville at No. 17. Four Maryland localities were ranked in the top 25.

Bethesda took the top prize for income with $184,606. Ashburn’s 6th-place median family income averaged $146,093. The only other area in the region on the income list was Arlington, with $132,580.

The criteria for best place to live? "These terrific small cities offer strong job opportunities, great schools, low crime, and a true sense of community, " according to Money.

Here is what Money had to say about Ashburn: "Even if you've never been to Ashburn, chances are some of your data have. It's estimated that more than 50% of the world's Internet traffic runs through Loudoun County, where Ashburn is located. The area is home to data centers for major companies like Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. Ashburn has a high median income thanks to its abundance of well-paid technology jobs, but housing in the area is still relatively affordable."
