‘Money’: Ashburn No. 30 Best Place to Live

The community, a major player in Internet traffic, placed No. 6 in terms of median income.

Money Magazine came out with its annual "Best Places to Live" list on Monday, and Ashburn ranks No. 30 overall and No. 6 on the “Top-Earning Towns” list.

Carmel, IN, took first place overall, with Reston topping the list locally at No. 7, followed by Centreville at No. 17. Four Maryland localities were ranked in the top 25.

Bethesda took the top prize for income with $184,606. Ashburn’s 6th-place median family income averaged $146,093. The only other area in the region on the income list was Arlington, with $132,580.

The criteria for best place to live? "These terrific small cities offer strong job opportunities, great schools, low crime, and a true sense of community, " according to Money.

Here is what Money had to say about Ashburn: "Even if you've never been to Ashburn, chances are some of your data have. It's estimated that more than 50% of the world's Internet traffic runs through Loudoun County, where Ashburn is located. The area is home to data centers for major companies like Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. Ashburn has a high median income thanks to its abundance of well-paid technology jobs, but housing in the area is still relatively affordable."

It is a nice place but traffic is horrible. Imrove Route 7. Get some more things to do, restaurants and a dog park. Housing and rents are way too high. Not everyone makes $100.000 a year.

After having lived in Centreville for four years, living in Ashburn beats the pants off of living in Centreville. The only downside about Ashburn --- the greenway tolls.

WIDEN BELMONT RIDGE ROAD....NEED LIGHTING, ACCIDENTS ALL THE TIME. ALSO, DO AWAY WITH THE BICYCLE PATH, MOTORISTS STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET TO LET THE CYCLISTS CROSS, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE THE STOP SIGNS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STREET!!!

It's not a bike path. It's a Multi Use Trail, meaning anyone - joggers, walkers, riders can use it. And while you're on the subject of it, the W&OD is one of the best parts of living in any region that has the trail running through it. And please, stop with the all caps shouting. Are you a realtor?

A "median family income averaged $146,093"....? Wow. What am I doing in Ashburn, since I only make 1/3 of that!!! It IS a nice place to live, but with the cost of the toll road and the congestion on Rt. 7 & 28, it's ridiculous. Ashburn, itself has very little to offer in the way of restaurants and small pubs... Seems like when there is one, it moves out of the shopping centers because rent is so darned high. The schools are great and the neighborhoods are clean and well kept.

Ashburn is a great place to live! We own the Fantastic Sams Hair Salon at the corner of Farmwell Rd. & Ashburn Village Blvd. -- been there for 9 years! Lived in Ashburn Village over 15 years. While commuting is a challenge the area is great to come home too!

We moved to ashburn village in 1988 to escape the increasing madness of Tyson's corner. Now that's catching up to us here. Such is progress. If bf Saul didnt try to gouge his tenants every year on rent, some good restaurants would still be here. Shame shame on greed. My pet peeve is the people collecting cash at 7 and ashburn village blvd almost every day. Enough already!
