Community Corner

Rotary Club of Ashburn

The local chapter of international service organization is one year old and growing.

A little more than a year ago, the country’s oldest service organization established an Ashburn chapter, now the Rotary Club of Ashburn meets weekly at the 1757 Golf Club.

The local chapter links this part of Loudoun County to an international organization whose mission, “service above self,” has been to help communities through service and funding. With local, national and international chapters, upon becoming a member of Rotary International, individuals become connected wherever they go.

“You could go abroad and still be a part of the club,” said Nancy Pav, membership chair for Ashburn’s Rotary chapter.

Established in April 2010, the Ashburn Rotary has already initiated many service projects. From organizing blood drives with Inova Health System, assembling baskets for the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter, sponsoring teams, collecting food for Loudoun Interfaith and other projects, the Ashburn Rotarians quickly made an impact on our community.

“We are truly a service-based organization,” Pav said, adding that the Ashburn chapter helps put a spotlight on the needs in this rapidly growing part of the county.

One of the Ashburn Rotary’s most highly anticipated events is a benefit , which will raise money to defray some of the family’s rising medical costs.

“Our chapter is homegrown,” Pav said. “The Divineys are a local family and this is a great cause for the Rotary Club to be supporting.”

The gala takes place starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the . It includes dinner, entertainment and a silent auction.

Anyone looking for a way to give back to the community should know the Rotary Club is a well-established organization with a strong reputation. The Ashburn chapter is always looking for new members and new ideas. Rotary also supports people who have project ideas that they are trying to get off the ground.

“Members can do projects within Rotary,” said Pav.

Rotary International has an endowment fund it uses to help chapters initiate projects, so in addition to collaboration opportunities and a platform to help donors get started, there is also financial support under the Rotary umbrella.
