Tornado, Flash Flood Watches in Effect

Loudoun, Northern Virginia residents should be prepared in case conditions worsen.

7 p.m. update: Tornado watch has ended.

10:30 p.m. update: Flash flood watch has ended.

The National Weather Service has issued flash flood and tornado watches in Northern Virginia, including Loudoun, until tonight. A thunderstorm warning also was issued late in the afternoon. Rain has continued on and off throughout the day, hampering most outdoor activities.

A watch means conditions are favorable for a flash flood or tornado. The weather service would issue a warning if conditions escalate. A would mean the flood or tornado is imminent. While the watch remains in effect, residents should check regularly for updated weather forecasts and stay alert.
