Loudoun Paper Joins Those Endorsing McAuliffe for Governor, Two Papers in Virginia Opt Out

Loudoun has become a bellwether of sorts for Virginia, often reflecting the vote of the state as a whole and today, the Loudoun Times-Mirror, the county’s oldest newspaper endorsed Democrat Terry McAuliffe for Virginia governor over Republican Ken Cuccinelli and Libertarian Robert Sarvis.

Cuccinelli has been trailing in recent polls and more media has been weighing in. The Richmond Times-Dispatch, considered to have a conservative leaning editorial page, declined to endorse a candidate, while The Daily Progress in Charlottesville endorsed Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling as a write-in candidate. Bolling was pushed aside by state Republicans in favor of Cuccinelli four years after he took a backseat to Robert McDonnell, who became governor, and ran for lieutenant governor again.
