Lace Up for Learning 5k Run/Walk & Kids Fun Run

On
Saturday, November 2, 2013, Brambleton will host the inaugural Lace Up for
Learning 5k Run/Walk & Kids’ Fun Run. This family-oriented fundraising
event is designed to encourage a healthy lifestyle and engage local communities
in support of our schools. A percentage of registration proceeds will benefit: Creighton's Corner Elementary, Legacy Elementary,
Moorefield Station Elementary, Stone Hill Middle and Briar Woods High.
But, this
event will also honor and remember a special resident.

Sadly, shortly
after planning was underway for this event, Brambleton lost a resident and
friend, Alex Lamme, on Thursday, April 11, 2013.  He is survived by his
wife, Janae, and four children – Nicholas (13), Alexandra (10), Avary (5) and
Alayna (3).

“Our
community was deeply touched by this tragic loss and we wanted to find a
meaningful way to honor and remember Alex at the event,” said event director
and Brambleton resident, Ashley Campolattaro. The inaugural Lace Up for
Learning event is dedicated in loving memory of Alex.

An
Education Trust Fund has been established for the Lamme children and Lace Up
for Learning event registrants have the opportunity to contribute towards this
fund during registration. Additionally, The Alex Lamme Memorial Spirit Award will be presented to the beneficiary school providing
the most volunteer support and registered participants (combined total as a
percentage of the school’s total enrollment).  The recipient school will
receive a $500 bonus and a trophy to keep until next year’s event.

In
addition to being a loving husband, father, son and brother, Alex was an avid
runner. Alex was multi Big 8 and Big 12
Champion while running on the University of Nebraska track team and an NCAA
Champion in the distance medley relay in the Indoor National Championship Meet
in 1996.  He was also a two time Drake Relay Champion and a Kansas Relay
Champion.  Alex was picked as a GTE Academic All American in 1996 and
1997, and an NCAA Division 1 track and field first team All American in
1997.  A graduate from the University of Nebraska he earned high
distinction and then attended the University of Virginia, College of Law where
he again excelled academically.

After law
school graduation, Alex began practicing law at the firm of Watt, Tieder,
Hoffar & Fitzgerald. His last day of employment with the firm was March 31,
2013. Just days before his passing, Alex started at Kiewit, one of the largest
construction companies in the world. The Lamme
family was in the process of relocating to Nebraska for this new position. “We are all very excited about the upcoming 5K event
in honor and memory of Alex Lamme who worked in our law firm for 13 years and
resided in Brambleton for many years.  Friends and family are
participating in the 5K run from the west coast, east coast and the
Midwest.  We thank everyone who will be attending this event in support of
the Alex Lamme Family, and those that made, or will make, contributions to the
educational trusts for Alex and Janae’s four children,” said Watt, Tieder,
Hoffar & Fitzgerald’s Chairman, Robert Watt.
