The Business Bank, a local Northern Virginia community bank, is getting geared up for its 3rd Annual Food Drive benefiting Food for Others. The food drive, which runs from November 14th thru November 28th, partners The Business Bank employees, their clients, and their neighboring community in a effort to collect and donate as much food for Food for Others as they can get their hands on. Through their efforts they have managed to collect over 2,300 pounds of food over the past two years! This year they are hoping to collect even more! If you would like to participate in the food drive, The Business Bank welcomes you at any of their eight locations throughout Northern Virginia and will even give you your own reusable tote bag to help you with your donation.
Food for Others, the largest distributor of free food directly to people in need in Northern Virginia, provides the assistance vitally needed by our unemployed and low-income neighbors. They provide a safety net for people who suddenly face unforeseen emergencies such as a family illness or the loss of a job or a spouse.
Even though Northern Virginia is considered one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the country, we still face a poverty rate of about 5%. This means, based on U.S. Census figures, that more than 90,000 people are living in poverty and 30 percent are children.
