Ashby Ponds Aims to Help Area Children in Need this Thanksgiving

Ashby Ponds has raised nearly $1300 and continues to donate food items for the Backpack Buddies program, helping to feed area children in need.

On Wednesday, November 14, about 50 residents and staff from Ashby Ponds retirement community participated in a Turkey Shoot golf putting challenge and a Turkey Trot to benefit area children in need.  The community has raised nearly $1300 for Backpack Buddies, a program which helps to provide "nutritious, child-friendly, self-serve food designed to fill a backpack and feed a child over the weekend," according to their website.  The community raised money for the program, as well as collected donated items such as canned soup, shelf milk, juice boxes, cereal, instant oatmeal, and granola bars.  Ashby Ponds will continue to accept donations until Thanksgiving for the Backpack Buddies program.
