Ashby Ponds Holds Father’s Day Fishing Tournament

On Saturday, June 15, nearly 100 residents and their guests visited for the first annual Father's Day Fishing Tournament at Ashby Ponds retirement community in Ashburn, Va.

On Saturday, June 15, nearly 100 residents and their guests visited for the first annual Father’s Day Fishing Tournament at Ashby Ponds retirement community in Ashburn, Va.

Throughout the day, 27 fish were caught, but two Ashby Ponds grandsons were crowned champions for the tournament challenges: Nate Peacock for “Longest Single Fish” and Garrett Ferguson for “Largest Combined Total”.  Each tournament participant received a Gold Sport Award Certificate.

Prior to the tournament, the pond where the event took place was stocked with a number of species to make for a full functioning ecosystem including:  100 Large Mouth Oswego Bass, 500 Red and Blue Gills, 100 Stripped Yellow Perch, 100 Black and White Crappies, 100 Channel Catfish, 100 Small Breeder Shiners, 100 Rosey Reds, 1,000 Fathead Minnows, 100 Assorted Snails, 100 Crayfish, 100 Giant Jumbo Bullfrog Tadpoles, and 500 Daphnia.
