Watch: 'Zane Strong' - Classmate Surprises Hillside Elementary

9-year-old Zane Dovel, who suffered severe head trauma as the result of a car accident, surprises his classmates at Hillside Elementary in Broadlands.

On April 17, 9-year-old Zane Dovel suffered severe head trauma as a result of a car accident, according to his uncle, Bill Byrne. Zane was taken by helicopter to Fairfax Hospital where he was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit following surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He continues to undergo surgery eight weeks later.

Amanda Phillips began a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical bills and family expenses. Phillips said in the campaign description she hopes donations will assist Zane's parents, Jason and Connie Dovel, “so that their energy can be focused on his recovery and the well being of their other two children, Zach and Kristin.”

As of June 6, 174 people have donated $12,220 of the GoFundMe campaign’s $100,000 goal.
