Who Deserves Credit for Preserving Loudoun’s History? Nominees Wanted

The Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission seeks candidates for the Loudoun History Awards.

Know someone whose name should go down in history for their work to highlight and preserve Loudoun’s past? Nominated them for the 21st annual Loudoun History Awards. The Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission is now accepting nominations, with a deadline set for Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

To nominate someone for an award, sent a letter to the committee with information about the nominee’s accomplishments, including newspapers articles, program announcements, published materials or any other information that backs the nominee’s case. Don’t forget to include contact information for the nominee as well as the nominator.

The awards recognize significant contributions to preserving Loudoun’s past via the collection of county documents and memorabilia, preservation of historic landmarks, visual arts, writing and long-term involvement in local history organizations. 

A public awards ceremony is set for 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at Thomas Balch Library.

Last year’s honorees included:

Kenneth Fleming for his contributions to research and preservation of Loudoun County history

Jim Hanna for his contributions to the advocacy, preservation, photographic documentation, and promotion of Loudoun County history

Louis Jett for his contributions to research and preservation of the memory of  African Americans in Loudoun County’s history

James P. Lucier Sr. for his contributions to the advocacy, preservation, historical research and writing of Loudoun County history.
