Mother's Day—Some Celebrate, Others Reminisce

Every day is a mother's day. End of life is inevitable. But mothers are always loved, revered and missed.

A friend's mom passed away recently. And she was completely grief-stricken. Losing a parent is heart wrenching. While paying condolences to her, it was as though I relived my melancholic past. 

My mother too departed some 7 years ago. Her unexpected demise left us in complete disbelief. Performing last rituals on an otherwise vivacious parent and bidding farewell to her required courage and endurance.

Days following her death were filled with feeling of despair and agony. Nights looked much longer, gloomy and intimidating than one could ever imagine.

All of a sudden, mom's teeny belongings appeared remarkably priceless, her friends seemed dearer. Her voice kept echoing. And a whole lot of mixed feelings hit hard.

A mama whose subtle way of balancing career and family were awe inspiring. Her actions and deeds made her stand among the women who command respect and win accolades in the community.

As time passed by, sharp pain diminished, but nostalgia accompanied by recollection of childhood continued.

A doting and most caring mom a daughter could ever get. Each year, Mother's Day is a grim reminder of this divine relationship.
