Obituary: Barbara C. Krohne, 94

Barbara C. Krohne, 94, of Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, VA, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.

Barbara was born on Nov. 7, 1918, in Montpelier, VT. She was a daughter of the late Henry Fink Colton and the late Esther Cheney Colton.  She was the wife of the late Kurt Roland Krohne Sr. married for 57 years. They spent many years in Longmeadow, MA; where they raised their family and were devoted members of the First Church of Christ in Longmeadow. Ft. Lauderdale, became her winter residence until moving to Ashby Ponds in 2010.

She leaves to cherish her family her son Kurt R. Krohne, Jr. and daughter-in-law Marion, of Bonita Springs, FL, her daughter Susan K. and son-in-law Phillip E. Collins of Ashburn, VA; four grandchildren Kristen Downie, Karin Riordan, Phillip “Flip”, Collins, Jr. and Scott A. Collins; and three great grandchildren Colby Manning and Parker and Cameron Riordan; and a niece and two nephews and a special friend Bill Kaynor of Suffield, CT.

Barbara was predeceased by her brother Henry F. Colten Jr., of Newbern, NC, earlier this year.

“Bardi” enjoyed many hobbies including painting, traveling, gardening and reading. She was a true artist enjoying her own art work in various mediums. Pastels and oils were her favorite. She loved to visit museums throughout her travels enhancing her appreciation. In the end she was thrilled to live so close to the Art World here in Washington, DC. A memorial service will be held at Ashby Ponds on Saturday, Sept. 21. Interment will be held in Longmeadow cemetery in October.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to Capital Caring 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.
