Obituary: Herbert Henry Farris Jr., 82

Herbert Henry Farris Jr., of Ashburn, VA, passed away on Jan. 1, 2014 at Capital Caring Hospice, Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA.

He was born in Maury County, TN, on Jan. 4, 1931, to Herbert Henry Farris Sr. and Josephine Olivia Farris (Kennedy). He graduated from Hampshire High School in Hampshire, TN, and then served in the U.S. Navy.

After leaving the Navy he moved to Virginia in 1950 where he went on to receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Benjamin Franklin University. He began his career in the General Accounting Office in Washington, DC, and then joined the Tart Lumber Company in Sterling, VA, where he remained as treasurer until his retirement.

He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, dad, granddad and wonderful provider for his family. He had a great love for genealogy, nature and his boyhood home of Tennessee.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lynn Tenley Farris, and his three daughters: Susan Lynn Farris of Waterford, VA, Janet Farris Kennedy (Robert) of Dewees Island, SC, and Diane Farris Shawver (Jere) of Vienna, VA; and three grandchildren: Corynne Olivia Harvey Davie (Anton) of London, England, Josephine Virginia Shawver of Vienna, and Jared Stedman Shawver of Vienna. He also is survived by his sister, Ruth Olivia Tart (Lynwood, deceased) of Falls Church; brothers Clyde Waller Farris (Sara) of Columbia, TN, and Billy Kennedy Farris (Carolyn) of Lake Anna, VA; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother James Henry Farris and his sister Linda Blair Bell (Joe, deceased). He will be buried at a later date at the family burial ground, Old Well Cemetery, in Kettle Mills, TN.
