Shirley Wellington Grimes, age 83, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away on March 7, 2014. He was born on May 15, 1930 in Loudoun County, Virginia and was the son of Herbert and Florence Grimes.

He served in the United States Army for several years with a rank of corporal.

He was a life-long resident of Loudoun County, Virginia where he was in the construction industry for nearly 50 years. As a building contractor, his repertoire included the construction of countless custom homes, commercial buildings and office space. His expert knowledge of construction practices was vast as he learned and became highly skilled at all phases of building and construction and was known for being a master carpenter and brick mason.

Shirley was a devoted husband, loving father, and a beloved grandfather. He was a true friend to anyone who had the honor to know him, his sense of humor was unparalleled, and will forever be known as a pure quiet soul who brought beauty to the world.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris Hagenbuch Grimes; a sister, Dolly Hagenbuch of Leesburg, Virginia; a brother, Calvin “Koochie” Grimes of Leesburg, Virginia; a daughter, Sandra Bruning and her husband, Raymond, of Summit Point, West Virginia; a son, Thomas Grimes and his wife, Diane, of Leesburg, Virginia; and a son, Gary Grimes of Millersburg, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Christa Bruning, Megan Grimes, and Dylan Grimes.

The family will receive visitors at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, Virginia on Wednesday, March 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home on Thursday, March 13 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to immediately follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
