A man who sustained injuries while attempting to start a fire in Ashburn Sunday night was flown by helicopter to Washington Hospital Center for treatment, according to Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management. A firefighter also injured during the incident was taken Inova Lansdowne Hospital.
A call to the Loudoun County Emergency Communications Center at 6:22 p.m. directed fire and rescue workers to a house fire on the 43300 block of Wayside Circle, just off Claiborne Parkway. Loudoun fire and rescue personnel found a small fire on the first floor of the home, extinguished it and contained the area, according to a report from Loudoun Fire & Rescue.
An adult male sustained injuries while attempting to light a fire in a fireplace at the home. A helicopter landed at Stone Bridge High School to transport the victim to Washington Hospital Center. It was not clear Monday night how the firefighter was injured or the extent to either person’s injuries.
The Loudoun Fire Marshal’s Office deemed the fire accident, according to the report, resulting in about $30,000 in damage.
