Bomb Hoax at Loudoun Sheriff's Station
Drunk Reston man walked into Sterling station, allegedly talking about explosive device, according to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Suspicious package found nearby.
Loudoun County Sheriff's Office has arrested a man after his claims of an explosive device near the sheriff's Sterling station led police to discover a package nearby.
Kenneth Couch, 60, of Reston was charged with Drunk in Public by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and Manufacturing a Hoax Device by the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Couch walked into the Sheriff's station on E. Frederick Drive at 8:47 p.m. Thursday. Appearing intoxicated, Couch allegedly made statements about a possible explosive device in the area, according to a Sheriff's Office release.
A deputy in the area discovered a suspicious package close to a nearby electrical transformer. The Loudoun County Bomb Squad rendered the package safe. The package did contain an explosive initiation system, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Couch had indicated that there may be additional explosives. Leading bomb squad personnel and other law enforcement from Loudoun County, Fairfax County and the Virginia State Police to search two additional locations, but nothing was found.
