His mother also was injured after a car struck the pair at Farmwell Road/Ashburn Village Parkway.

UPDATE 12:36 p.m. May 10: The boy who lost his life attempting to cross Farmwell Road has been indentified as 8-year-old Ashburn resident Beshoy B.E. Shokr.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident.

The boy was transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman was airlifted to the Fairfax Trauma Center, where her condition was believed to stable at the time of the report early Tuesday morning. A family member is with her. The identity of the victims will not be released until all family members have been properly notified.

The report described the intersection as “unlit.” The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Neither alcohol nor speed is believed to be a factor, according to the report. No one was charged. Additional information will not be available from investigators until later today.

Ahmad Afshari, a cashier at the Exxon at that corner, was working at the time, but said he did not see the accident.

"This is a bad intersection. There are accidents there all the time," he said, adding that incidents occur at all times of day. "One o'clock, eight o'clock."

The crossroads was not among the 10 most dangerous intersections – identified by the Sheriff's Office early this year – in the county. According to Sheriff's spokesman Kraig Troxell, there were two accidents at that intersection in 2010. The May 9 accident makes the second so far this year. The first occurred May 1.
