Deputies Shoot Man Aiming Possible Firearm

Law enforcement was responding to report of man threatening family members Tuesday afternoon, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

A man suffered life-threatening injuries when shot by law enforcement in Sterling on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

At around 4 p.m., deputies responded to the 1100 block of Albemarle Road, according to a Sheriff's Office release.

Deputies were reportedly responding to the scene of an armed disorderly man who was brandishing a large sword and was threatening family members outside of a home.

When deputies arrived, the man retrieved a possible firearm and refused orders to drop the weapon. He reportedly pointed the weapon at the deputies and was shot.

The man was airlifted to an area hospital.

The Virginia State Police is working with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office regarding the investigation.
