Deputies to Step Up School Zone Enforcement

Back-to-school campaign focuses on infractions that jeopardize student safety.

To help keeps students safe, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office plans step up school zone traffic enforcement during the next few weeks. The announcement comes as students all over the county return to school today, Aug. 29, on buses and bicycles, in cars and on foot.

Deputies stationed in marked and unmarked cruisers, as well as on motorcycles, plan to use radar and LIDAR to catch speeders at some schools, while “smart trailers” that flash when drivers are speeding will be used at other schools.

In addition, the Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers to obey signals by law enforcement officers and crossing guards. Ignoring such signals endangers children and crossing guards.
