Driver Crashes into Cyclist on S. Sterling Blvd.

A driver who reportedly failed to yield right of way while turning right on red struck a bicyclist Tuesday morning on S. Sterling Boulevard.

A motorist traveling westbound on E. Maple Avenue at S. Sterling Boulevard Tuesday was stopped at the red light while waiting to turn right on to northbound S. Sterling Blvd. 

The driver failed to notice a bicyclist who was traveling northbound on S. Sterling Blvd. at E. Maple Ave. and proceeded into the intersection on a green light. As the driver attempted to turn right, he reportedly struck the bicyclist in the intersection.

The incident occurred Tuesday, July 22 at 8:24 a.m.

The bicyclist, a 25-year-old Sterling man, was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The driver, a 32-year-old Sterling man, was issued a summons for failing to yield right of way while turning right on red.
