A 41-year-old North Carolina man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries Friday after being assaulted and struck with a vehicle in what police say was a hit-and-run.
The man attempted to separate two parties involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of Cascades Marketplace shopping center. According to witnesses, when the man lost his shoes and other clothing during the incident and tried to retrieve them, a vehicle circled the parking lot and intentionally struck the victim before fleeing the scene. The crime was reported at 1:57 a.m.
The driver, Freddy L. Prem, 24, of Sterling, was charged with malicious wounding, felony hit and run and drunk in public. The passenger, Javier Benitez, 22, of Leesburg, was charged with malicious wounding and failure to render aid, according to the Loudon County Sherrif's Office Criminal Investigations Division.
Both men are currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Inova Fairfax Hospital and has since been released.
