Deputies discovered a knife Tuesday afternoon after receiving a call that people were being threatened by an unknown man on a walking patch in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

A witness called police around 2 p.m. Tuesday regarding a man allegedly wielding a large knife and threatening people on a path in the area of North Cottage Road and Sugarland Run Drive.

"The witness reported seeing the man discard the knife and flee the area," according to information in the Sheriff's daily crime report. The suspect was described as tall, wearing a black zip-up hoodie and blue jeans.

No suspect matching this description was located, but a knife was recovered in the area, according to police.
