LCSO Charges Man in Tree Trimming Fraud

The sheriff's office now seeks potential victims who have not come forward.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that a suspect has been arrested in Fauquier in relation a fraud case impacting eastern Loudoun County, and that there may be additional victims who have not reported the scam to law enforcement.

Authorities charged John R. Kennedy Jr., 36, of Midland, VA, with obtaining money by false pretenses. Kennedy is alleged to have offered tree-trimming services to a Sterling resident in September via a company named Action Tree Service. According a report from the LCSO, Kennedy signed a contract and collected a deposit for the work, but did not perform any work.

Anyone else who paid money to the victim without receiving services is asked to contact Detective M. Halley in the LCSO’s Financial Crimes Unit at 703-777-0475.

As of Oct. 10, Kennedy remained in custody at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
