Multi-vehicle Crash Shuts Down Westbound Greenway Lanes

The accident occurred as heavy rain fell at the end of rush hour Thursday night and sent two people to the hospital.

At least two men were transported to the Inova Fairfax Hospital following a multi-vehicle collision on the Dulles Greenway shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, according to a report from the Virginia State Police.

An eastbound BMW crossed the median into westbound traffic and struck a Dodge SUV, according to the report. The BMW continued moving and struck a Mercedes Benz head on. As a result, a Ford Explorer also struck the Mercedes.

The accident was between the Loudoun County Parkway and Route 772 exits, and shut the Greenway down for about an hour. Many drivers exited their vehicles while they waited for authorities to clear the lanes. Eventually, drivers were permitted to pass the accident on the left.
