New Armed Assaults May Be Linked to Other Unsolved Cases

Previous incidents involved women robbed and assaulted in February and December.

Two violent weekend assaults on women in Sterling may be linked to similar incidents in February and December, according to an ABC7 report.

At 5 a.m. Saturday, a woman was heading to visit a friend in the  21000 block of Stanford Square when she was approached while sitting in her car by a man holding a gun. He demanded that she get out of the car and she was sexually assaulted during the robbery, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

At 5:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1200 block E. Severn Way, a 62-year-old victim was stuck by a blunt object that may have been a handgun while struggling with a man who grabbed her purse.

Three months ago, the Sheriff's Office released a composite sketch of a suspect possibly involved in four similar armed robberies in the Sterling area.

ABC7 notes that investigators are trying to see whether the man in the February sketches was involved in the weekend assaults.

Anyone with any information regarding the possible identity of this suspect can contact Det. W. Promisel of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.

If the caller wishes to remain anonymous they are asked to call Loudoun Crime Solvers at 703-777-1919. If the information provided to Loudoun Crime Solvers leads to an arrest and indictment, the caller could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
