New Year’s Eve Crash Sparks Hours-Long Search in Middleburg

The driver fled after hitting tree, but was located the following morning.

When officers responded to the scene of a single-car accident in Middleburg on New Year’s Eve, they found an empty car.

Deputies with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reported to the scene around 2 p.m. Dec. 31 and found a pickup truck had struck a tree. The LCSO, with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, performed a ground and aerial search for the driver under the belief that he or she could be injured. A reverse 911 call was made to homes in the area.

The suspected driver was located around 8 a.m. Jan. 1 and declined medical treatment.

Charges have not been filed, but the incident remains under investigation.
