Russell Branch Race Leads to Accident, DUI Charge

July 31 incident sent one driver to hospital with serious injuries, while another received a reckless charge.

Two men appear to have been racing when they became involved in a car accident July 31 that sent the driver and passenger from one car to the hospital, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s University Station.

Robert Harrison Jr. was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries after the 2007 Ford Mustang GT he was driving crashed through a safety fence and rolled over.

Harrison had been racing 25-year-old Julian Brooks who was driving a Dodge Challenger SRT-8, when the two vehicles struck one another as they approached a dead end. Harrison lost control of his Mustang, with crashed through a fence and ditch, and then rolled several times.

Besides Harrison’s injuries, a 22-year-old Ashburn resident who was in Harrison’s car was taken to Inova Loudoun Hospital for minor injuries. Brooks and a 23-year-old passenger in his car were not injured.

Deputies charged Harrison with a DUI and Brooks with reckless driving.
