UPDATE: Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman confirmed that the victim of the incident at Silver Eagle Group in Ashburn has died.

The woman was seriously injured while at the shooting range at Silver Eagle Group on Guilford Drive in Ashburn Friday evening, according to witnesses who were at the scene.

The incident, said to have occurred around 5 p.m., has not yet been confirmed by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. The acting public information office has not yet responded to a request for information, nor has the Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management.

The person who reported the incident, who asked not to be identified, said he had been waiting in line for his turn when the incident occurred.

“People started shouting, ‘Call 911! Call 911!” he said.

Silver Eagle employees quickly took control of the situation and the victim, believed to be female, suffered an injury. One witness at the scene reported seeing blood, but believed the victim to be breathing. A second witness inside the range at the time of the shooting said he attended to the woman and that the injury appeared to be very serious.

Both men credited Silver Eagle with acting responsibly in the aftermath.

“Those guys did a good job calming the situation, clearing the scene,” said the first witness. Neither witness saw the actual gunshot occur.

Sheriff Chapman said the incident would be investigated; initial indications are that no one else was involved.

He said LCSO officers soon arrived, followed by an ambulance and fire trucks. He estimated the ambulance arrived about 10 minutes after the first calls were being made.

Another death from guns.

In review of the above incident it should be noted that the individuals who first responded to provide first aid and BLS to the victim were SEG patrons who were on the range at that time. One on these whom was a local high school student, who without hesitation provided emergency first aid and tended to the needs of the victim until EMS arrived.

Charlie, Im guessing you support "Gun Free Zones" including shooting ranges like Silver Eagle? People like you is what makes guns dangerous. Let me pose a few questions/comments: - Which state has had a significant drop in gun related crimes and made national news because of it? A - Virginia - Which state/cities have the worst gun related crimes? A - Chicago IL. Can you see the irony here? I'm guessing that it's Bush's fault as well.

What actually happened to cause the injury? I've been to this range several times.

My understanding is that it was self-inflicted and not accidental.

Wow, that's sad and also an odd place to take that action. Sorry to hear. Thanks for the update.
