Speeding Stop Leads to Chase, Crash, Stolen Car

Multiple charges await a Washington, DC, man who attempted to flee when a deputy attempted to pull him over along Route 9 in Loudoun near the West Virginia line.

Around 2:45 a.m. this morning, June 15, a deputy from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office was heading eastbound on Route 9 when a speeding westbound vehicle passed him near Hillsboro. When the deputy turned on his lights, the suspect vehicle accelerated. The deputy turned around and followed in pursuit.

As the car raced toward the West Virginia line, Loudoun emergency dispatchers contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Loudoun deputy gave up pursuit at the state line, but continued along Route 9. Approximately one mile from the state line, the deputy came across a three-vehicle crash involving the suspect.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Deputies determined the car had been stolen.

Michael D. Brown, 40, was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he remains hospitalized with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Three other patients also were airlifted from the scene, while two additional people were transported to a local hospital.

Brown faces charges of felony speeding to elude, reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle and driving on a suspended license. The suspect is also wanted in Arlington County, Virginia for a probation violation involving a property crime charge.
