A teacher at Cedar Lane Elementary School in Ashburn faces a charge of driving under the influence as well as other alcohol-related charges after his arrest at the school Wednesday morning.

Shortly before 10 a.m., a school employee notified a school resource officer, staffed by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, that another school employee might be intoxicated, according to an LCSO report.

After investigating, the officer charged Gregory A. Wuenschel, 48, of Ranson, WV, with possessing alcohol on school property, driving without a license and DUI.

Wuenschel has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Wuenschel participated in a team-taught gym class Wednesday morning and was “never alone with students,” according to Loudoun County Public Schools spokesman Wayde Byard.

Byard said Wuenschel has been with the school system for nine years.

He was released on a $2,500 bond.

This is my son's PE teacher and he is a very nice man. He was particularly helpful (with alternate activities, etc) after my son had major surgery on his leg. This time of year depression can grip people (which can lead to self-medication). I pray he gets the help he needs.

He is a very good guy and I hope he is okay.

Depression doesn't cause someone to drive without a license. Begs the question of why he has no license.

Yea, but it didn't say "driving on a suspended or revoked license", just driving without a license. Maybe he forgot to renew it or didn't have it on him. Only time will tell.

You folks apparently know and like this guy. You are in serious denial. This man was drunk at school!!! He has no business being a teacher. There are no half measures when kids are at risk. His credential should be revoked. -- retired teacher
