Third Accident Raises Fatality Total in Loudoun Over Weekend to Five

Loudoun law enforcement handled two of the accidents, while the Virginia State Police handled a third.

Another fatal accident over the weekend reported by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office raises the total to five.

An accident in Aldie Friday afternoon killed a Texas woman on a weekend when two additional accidents too the lives of four other people in Loudoun County, according to reports from the LCSO and Virginia State Police.

The first of the three incidents occurred around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, when a 2004 Porsche SUV heading west on Route 50 near Briar Patch Lane cross the center line and struck an eastbound 2013 Chrysler minivan that had six people in it, according to the reports.

Irene C. Ellisor, an 86-year-old passenger in the minivan from Huntsville, TX, died at the scene. The minivan’s driver was reported in critical condition at Inova Fairfax Hospital as of Monday morning, according to the reports, while a front seat passenger with serious injuries was released. Three additional passengers in minivan were taken to Stone Springs Medical Center or the Cornwall Campus of Loudoun Inova Hospital. All minivan passengers were adult females, according to the LCSO.

The SUV’s driver was taken to Stone Springs Medical Center and later transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital before being released. The case is awaiting review by the Commonwealth's Attorney’s Office.

Patrick Wrenn Jr., 46, of Ashburn, and his wife, Leia Wrenn, 44, died in another accident, called alcohol-related in the LCSO report, after a 2012 BMW 750 Li driven by Mark A Sgarlata, 52, of Ashburn struck them. According to the reports, Sgarlata was turning left from Ashburn Farm Parkway into the shopping center at Junction Plaza at 12:50 a.m. Oct. 4 when he struck the couple, who were thrown from the 2006 Harley Davidson they were riding. They were taken to a local hospital where they died.

An officer charged Sgarlata, who was not injured, with DUI and two felony counts of involuntary manslaughter. He remains at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

The Virginia State Police reported the third accident, which occurred at 1:38 a.m. Sunday when a 1994 Ford Explorer heading north on Evergreen Mills Road near Reservoir Road south of Leesburg ran off the road and struck a tree. A fire quickly engulfed the vehicle, according to the report and the Explorer’s two occupants died at the scene. Speed was considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
