Toys for Tots Collection Underway

Firefighters will accept donations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve program at stations all over the county

Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management and the Loudoun Career Fire Fighters Association announced their participation in the 63rd Annual Toys for Tots Campaign, sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

"The department is proud to be participating in this wonderful program for the sixth consecutive year," said Fire Chief Keith Brower. "Your generosity will help put smiles on the faces of many children this holiday season."

The Toys for Tots Campaign began in 1947 when a group of U.S. Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children in the Los Angeles area at Christmas. Since the creation of the Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children. During the 2009 Toys for Tots Campaign, approximately 9,500 toys were collected just in Loudoun County.

From Nov. 29 to Dec. 23, fire and rescue stations across the county will be accepting donations of new, unwrapped toys. Please note that toys resembling weapons or toys that could potentially be used as a weapon (i.e. guns, knives, swords, etc.) will not be accepted. If you would like to make a monetary donation online, visit the official website at www.toysfortots.org/donate.
