A group filed a petition in Loudoun Circuit Court Monday, Jan. 27, to have Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio (R-Sterling) removed from office.

While such a move is considered difficult under Virginia law, enough signatures were gathered (686) to initiate the process, according to a press release from the group called Sterling Deserves Better, which includes members of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee.

The recall request stems from an investigation of Delgaudio for alleged misuse of his office staff. No charges were filed in the case, but a grand jury statement indicated that members were concerned about the activities. The Board of Supervisors removed Delgaudio from board committees for several months.

Members of Sterling Deserves Better – including Al Nevarez, who ran against Delgaudio in 2011 – have planned a press conference at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street SE, in Leesburg.

The whole group has a aversion to winners. Al lost to Eugene in a really big way. Flannery lost to Plowman by a landslide. Miller lost to Rust. Pierce lost to Volpe. Barney will lose to Eugene and their common attribute is they are all losers. None of them recognize a good candidate until they get thumped upside the head by one.
