Election 2011: Loudoun Sheriff

One Republican, Two Independents compete to head up county law enforcement.

One of the more contentious races this year has been the campaign for sheriff where Republican Mike Chapman faces incumbent Stephen O. Simpson and Ron Speakman, both Independent.

The names Chapman and Speakman may spark déjà vu, since they faced each other in the Republican primary earlier this year. Chapman won soundly, but Speakman decided to continue his campaign without party support just as Simpson did four years ago.

Glossy fliers for Simpson began hitting mailboxes recently after a relatively quiet campaign from him, while his opponents have issued email messages and fliers for months pushing for name recognition in a county where Simpson’s been sheriff since 1996.
