Elizabeth Miller Launches Campaign Against Greason

The former LCDC member filed paperwork to seek the delegate's seat as an Independent.

Ashburn resident and former member of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee Elizabeth Amy Miller this week formalized her challenge to Republican Del. Thomas A. “Tag” Greason for the House of Delegates 32nd District.

Miller said in an interview Tuesday that could not fathom the idea of Greason not facing a challenger for a second straight election. Greason first won office after defeating then-incumbent David Poisson.

“I am constitutionally opposed to him running unopposed for a second time,” Miller said, specifically pointing to Greason’s support of a bill that requires women seeking an abortion to first undergo an ultrasound. “It’s unacceptable that he has no challenger, so I’m stepping up.”

Miller, the wife of former county Supervisor Stevens Miller, considers herself a Democrat, but decided to file as an Independent candidate. She has accepted an invitation to work on Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe’s women’s steering committee and plans to seek the endorsement of the Democratic Party of Virginia.

“I will be fighting fiercely for Terry,” she said.

However, Miller and her husband had a falling out with the LCDC a few years ago, resulting in a rift she hopes to overcome.

“I don’t see that being a big issue. We’re still talking, working things out,” she said. “What’s important to Democrats in Loudoun County is that their representatives keep their minds on the business of governing and making sure people are protected and not intruded upon in their personal lives.”

But without a candidate to run against him, which appeared to the be the case when Miller filed her intent to run Monday, “he walks away with it again. I’m not letting him.”

While Miller has vowed to fight for a woman’s right to make all health care decisions in consultation with her doctor, gun rights advocates may wonder where she stands on the 2nd Amendment.

“What we have in Virginia is pretty good, but I think we really need to focus on responsible gun ownership,” she said, offering her key platform. “I’m vocally pro-choice. I’m vocally pro-equality. I’m vocally pro-workers’ rights. I’m vocally pro-environment.”

Miller, her husband and their 11-year-old son live in Broadlands. From 2008 to 2012, she served on Loudoun's Community Services Board. She has a psychology degree from George Mason University.

The 32nd District includes Lansdowne and most of of Ashburn.
