Gov't, Schools Close; Flights, Metro Canceled

In anticipation of Hurricane Sandy's arrival, classes and many services have been canceled Monday.

As Hurricane Sandy approaches with potential high winds and heavy rain, government offices, schools and transportation servies have decided to close Monday as a safety precaution:

  • All Loudoun County Public Schools and administrative offices are closed Monday, October 29, 2012 because of the forecast of severe weather.
  • In addition, federal government offices in the Washington, DC, region are closed to the public.
  • Airlines serving Dulles International and Reagan Washington National airports canceled most flights for Monday. Passengers are strongly encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, especially on Monday, when significant cancellations are expected. Both airports plan to remain open during this weather event. The Airports Authority will update the official Twitter account @dcairports.
  • The Metrorail system will be closed on Monday. Rail service on Sunday night will continue operate as scheduled until its normal closing time (midnight). No decision has yet been made on when Metrorail service will be restored after Monday. All Metrobus service will be suspended until further notice. All MetroAccess service has been cancelled on Monday. Customers are encouraged to sign up for MetroAlerts for information regarding restoration of service as information is known.  Sign up for MetroAlerts at www.wmata.com/metroalerts.
