Kaine Leading Allen in Ashburn Money Race

Campaign finance records show Democrat leading in Ashburn, across Virginia

The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents.

During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org

Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data.

Ashburn residents also donated more money to Kaine’s campaign than to his Republican challenger's. The former Virginia governor raised $19,000 in Ashburn ZIP codes, compared to Allen’s $10,200.

Residents in the 20147 ZIP code donated $14,750 to Kaine; residents in the 20148 ZIP code donated $4,250.

Allen raised $6,700 in the 20147 ZIP code and $3,500 in the 20148 ZIP code.

Residents in the 20176 ZIP code donated the most to Kaine’s campaign, giving a total of $30,500. Residents in the area’s 20175 and 20177 ZIP codes donated $7,722 and $500, respectively.

Allen raised $4,750 and $6,450 from the 20175 and 20176 ZIP codes, respectively.

In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians.
