Kaine Outraising Allen in Leesburg

Campaign finance records show Democrat leading in Leesburg and Virginia

The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents.

During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org

Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data.

Kaine also outraised Allen in Leesburg area codes, where residents donated nearly $39,000 to Kaine’s campaign during the filing period compared to $11,200 to Allen’s.

Residents in the 20176 Zip code donated the most to Kaine’s campaign, giving a total of $30,500. Residents in the area’s 20175 and 20177 Zip codes donated $7,722 and $500, respectively.

Allen raised $4,750 and $6,450 from the 20175 and 20176 Zip codes, respectively.

In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia.

The above data does not include donations from PACs, non-Virginia residents or small donors.

How is this article BS or illustrating any bias towards the left? It isn't making any claims about the outcome of the election -- it is simply reporting the fundraising numbers! The numbers are what they are. You could even make the argument that this article is in favor of Allen because it might prompt his donors to give him more money. I don't understand the hostility here. Calm yourself and breathe....

The hostility stems from fear; the "Leftist" accusations are knee-jerk reactions typical of Conservatives when published reports do not reflect their wishful thinking. If anything, I thought the lede did not accurately reflect the body of the article, which quoted figures clearly placing Kain in the lead. Mr. Tocchet's "Look at the Board" comment doesn't really mean much - voters change. "Look at the polls" is what's relevant here.

Having given the Dulles Toll Road to MWAA by Executive Order and putting the cost of the Silver Line on the backs of Loudounntax payers, the only way Kaine should win is by buying his election. He won't get my vote.

Ellie -- The complete lack of federal dollars for the Silver Line is the fault of our Congressman, not our previous Governor. Fairfax got $900 million in federal grant money for Phase I of the Silver Line. Loudoun gets ZERO for Phase II. Loudoun commuters will pay the price for Wolf's failure to work the federal funding system.

The toll road valued at 3.5 billion in 2008 is equal to 35 brand new high schoos but what did we get? Nada, nothing, ziltch, zero and cero add em up and that's what Kaine got for the toll road. Between Kaine and Ken Reid we should rename Loudoun County the MWAA County Funding Sounce!
