Loudoun Chooses Chopra by 53 Votes in Virginia Democratic Primary
State Sen. Mark Herring (D-Loudoun) handily wins the county in successful statewide bid for attorney general nomination.
The results are in, and State Sens. Ralph Northam and Mark Herring have won Virginia’s Democratic primary election Tuesday.
But in Loudoun, another candidate narrowly came out on top in the lieutenant governor's race.
Loudoun voters supported Northam’s challenger Aneesh Chopra with 50 percent of the vote to Northam’s 49 percent, according to final unofficial results from the state board of elections.

Just 53 votes separated the candidates, with Chopra at 2,305 and Northam at 2,253. Statewide, however, the margin between the candidates was much larger.
Northam pulled in 53 percent of the vote to Chopra’s 45 percent.

In the attorney general’s race, Herring earned 84 percent of the Loudoun County vote, while Fairfax trailed with 15 percent.

Turnout was low in nearly all of the county’s precincts, and polling places statewide.
Primary voting did not exactly catch fire in Loudoun Tuesday. By about 1:45 p.m., the Stone Bridge High School precinct in Ashburn had seen just 13 voters.
Chopra also seized a win in nearby Arlington County at 53 percent of the vote. Fairfax County voters went with Northam, who captured 54 percent of the votes there.
